| Personal Background: I was born and grew up in rural Georgia, about 40 miles west of Atlanta. After I married my Tennessee- reared husband, we moved to Kingsport in 1961 with our baby daughter. Having lived here much longer than I did in Georgia, I consider myself 'Almost a Tennessee Native', as the tag on the front of my car declares. I took early retirement from the local telephone company in 1994, after working there for 20 years. My husband retired the next year from AFG Industries. We both like retirement. We have the opportunity to spend more time with our families and pursuing our interests. | ||||||
| Awards & Achievements Interests: Honors graduate with a BS in Applied Organizational Management, Tusculum College, External Degree Program in 1995. | ||||||
| Community Activities: After retirement, I was able to fulfill a long-held wish to become a literacy tutor with the Literacy Council of Kingsport. An avid reader since I was five years old, I wanted to help those without that skill to learn the joys of reading. | ||||||
| Hobbies & Special Interests: An aspiring writer, I have had one short story published. Also have a novel begun and am assembling a collection of personal essays on growing up in rural Georgia in the '40's and '50's. Computers are also a big interest and I spend several hours every day on mine. Would spend more, but the mechanics of living get in the way! | ||||||
