Organization's Background:The National Association of Women Business Owners, (NAWBO), headquartered in the Washington, DC metropolitan area, is the only dues-based national organization representing the interests of all women entrepreneurs in all types of businesses. The organization currently has 60 chapters and 10 chapters-in-formation. It is affiliated with Les Femmes Chefs d’Entreprises Mondiales (World Association of Women Entrepreneurs) in 33 countries. Its purpose is to propel women entrepreneurs into economic, social and political spheres of power worldwide. It was founded with the intention of strengthening the wealth creating capacity of it’s members, promoting economic development, creating innovative and effective changes in the business culture, building strategic alliances, coalitions and affiliations, transforming public policy and influencing opinion makers. Organization's History: The Tri-Cities TN/VA Chapter of NAWBO was founded in 1994 at the urging of Maxine B. Rogers of the Virginia Highlands Small Business . Founding Members Included Deborah Adams - Chem Dry, Linda Holt, Cpa - Accounting Systems, Kim Cassell - EST, and Debbie Turner - Bristol Bagels, Sue Ojanen - Guest House, Inc. In 1997 the chapter-in-formation officially became a full chapter in the national organization. Awards & Achievements: 1995 - Created the Maxine B. Rogers Diamond Award in memory and recognition of Ms. Rogers commitment to helping area women evolve and reach their goals in life. Community Activities: The Tri-Cities TN/VA Chapter often allies with area Small Business Development Centers to host seminars and educational programs of interest to area business women. Professional/Civic Affiliations:The Tri-Cities TN/VA Chapter often allies with area Small Business Development Centers to present seminars and educational programs of interest to the business community. Organization's Objectives: To make NAWBO the premier professional organization in the Tri-Cities TN/VA region for women business owners; to establish NAWBO as an authoritative resource for small and woman-owned businesses; to present a professional image to the public in all chapter activities Organization's Directors:1997-98: President - Linda Holt, Vice-president - Cheryl Munn Wright, Secretary - Judy Campbell, Treasurer - Kim Richards-Booher, Corporate Relations Chair - Deborah Adams, Marketing - Linda J.
