Organization's Background: AAUW promotes equality for all women and girls, lifelong, education, and positive societal change. In principle and in practice, AAUW values and seeks a diverse membership. There shall be no barriers to full participation in this organization on the basis of gender, race, creed, age, sexual orientation, national origin, or disability. Organization's History: The Johnson City branch of the AAUW is preparing for the 7th Annual East Tennessee State University Re-Entry Scholarship Fund Raiser to be held at Shelbridge on September 20, 1997. To date, 51 scholarships for a total of $14,407 have been awarded to women seeking to continue their education. Awards & Achievements: The Johnson City Branch recently recieved recognition for an increase in its membership. Community Activities: The Johnson City Branch of the AAUW is currently partnering with the Appalachian Girl Scout Council for a September 26-27, 1997 girl's issues conference titled Today's Girls in Tommorrow's World. The branch also supports Females 2000, Take Our Daughter's To Work Day and is pursuing a collaboration with Girls, Inc. of Johnson City/Washington County. Organization's Directors: Co-President - Donna Lichty, Co-President - Lyn Abusamra, Secretary - Sharon Hatcher, Treasurer - Martha Trivette, Organization's Direction: AAUW is open to those with a bachelor's or higher degree from a regionally accredited institution.
